Blepharoplasty (Eyes)
Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) treats sagging and/or puffy skin around the lower and upper eyelid. Sagging skin on the upper eyelid often occurs as a natural part of aging. However, some people are more prone to
this. Sagging can make a person seem older than they really are. In some cases, sagging lids can inhibit proper vision and the operation may be considered medically necessary rather than cosmetic. Call your insurance
company to see if they might cover your treatment if you think that you qualify. The procedure involves incisions that follow the natural lines and creases of the eye area;
these incisions will be hidden naturally. During the procedure, excess fat is removed or redistributed.
The skin is trimmed and tightened, and the underlying muscles are tightened. A blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure and takes from one to two hours, depending on the number of lids undergoing treatment. Patients should expect to be out of work for about
one to two weeks to allow some bruising and slight swelling to subside.
