Body contouring Liposuction (lipoplasty) is recommended for those who have already achieved their preferred weight, but would like to treat certain problem areas that do not respond to diet and exercise.  For example, many men have stubborn fat deposits on their stomachs, while women tend to be frustrated by disproportionate fat deposits on their thighs and buttocks.  Liposuction can be performed on more than one area of the body during a single surgery or in conjunction with another cosmetic procedure.  Time frames for the procedure vary widely depending on how many areas are being treated and whether another procedure is being performed during the same operation.  Liposuction performed alone is an outpatient procedure, but combining it with certain other procedures may make in inpatient.  Time frames for recovery also vary depending on treatment; however, all patients must wear appropriate pressure garments for a minimum of one month following their operation.

Answers to frequently asked questions:

Will the fat just come right back?

During liposuction, fat containing cells are actually removed, and they will not grow back.  However, this will not prevent other cells from expanding to take their place if proper diet and exercise are not observed.  Patients must take care to maintain the results of their liposuction.
